OBITUARY IN THE LIBERTY VINDICATOR, July 20, 1944 Trinity Tragedy Claims Two Lives Maud White, Henry Davis Are Drowned At 10 a.m. Sunday A swimming party in the Trinity River, 25 miles north of Dayton ended at 10 a.m. Sunday in the drowning of Maud Elizabeth White, 16-year-old Dayton girl, and Henry Thomas Davis, 29, sawmill worker from the nearby Davis Hill community. Two couples had gone in swimming at a small but deep hole made by the recent river floods. Davis was stricken with the cramps and went under. Caught by Current Miss White's body was caught by an undercurrent soon after Davis's body disappeared. The man's body was found almost immediately after nearby fishermen were summoned, but Miss White's body was not found until 24 hours later. It was 300 yards downstream from where it disappeared. A large number of searchers from fishing camps, Dayton, Liberty, and Cleveland joined in seeking the body for many hours. Thompson, pastor of the Pine Grove Pentecostal Church in charge. He is survived by two small daughters, Nancy Charlene and Betty Lou; two brothers, Arthur and Curtis, both of Davis Hill. In Navy Until Recently Mr. Davis was in the navy from May 31, 1944 to July 3, when he received a medical discharge. Final Rites for Miss White were held Monday evening at 6:30 o'clock, at Linney Cemetery near Dayton, Rev. Tom Kinard of Crosby officiated, with Pace-Stancil Funeral Home of Liberty in charge. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lang White; one sister, Margie; and one brother, Hubert, all of Dayton.
