Ernest is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Louise Oakley; parents, John Hardy and Josephine Tillison Oakley; children, Jennifer Rose Oakley and Stephen Charles Oakley; and siblings, William Abraham, Julius Hardy, Charles Washington Oakley, Dessie Oneta Wilson, Bessie Loreta Schefer, Montien Elizabeth Surface, Teresa Florina Williams, and Paula Marita Moore. He is survived by his children, Jean Marie Nixon and her husband Curtis Ray, and Suzan Darlene McGee and her husband Gary Glen McGee; five grandchildren, Gary Nixon and wife Bethany, Valerie Schefer and husband Evandro, Cory McGee and wife Marissa, Eric McGee and wife Krystal, and Heather Wilks; eleven great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Chloe Schefer, Harley Nixon, Maggie Trenton, Dylan and Gunner McGee, Madison and Jackson Wilks; and Carson and Conrad Pennington; and siblings Joy Ellen Ewalt, Patsy Ruth Thornton, and Joe Benny Oakley. Ernest married Barbara on April 4, 1953 in Dallas, Texas. He was a carpenter and maintenance employee at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas until his retirement in 1995.
