FROM THE BARTLETT TRIBUNE AND NEWS (BARTLETT, TX) VOL. 55, ED. 1, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1942, THE OBITUARY FOR EMMA H. GIRNDT-WACKER READS: MRS. EMMA WACKER CLAIMED BY DEATH, SERVICES WEDNESDAY Death came to Mrs. Emma Wacker, Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock after a week's serious illness, at the age of 72 years, 11 months, and 19 days. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 at the St. John's Lutheran Church by her pastor, Rev. Gus W. Sager, and the body was laid to rest beside that of her husband in the city cemetery. She was born Emma Helen Girndt, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Friedrich Girndt, on September 20, 1859, at Ross Prairies, Fayette County, and was baptized on December 5, 1859, by the Evangelical Lutheran pastor, R. Jaeggle near Roundtop, and was confirmed on April 19, 1874. When twenty years old, she was joined in marriage with John Wacker, Sr. This union was blessed with eight children, five sons and three daughters, all of whom are living. The Wacker family lived in Ellinger until 1920, and there the deceased took an active part in the work of her church and the Ladies Aid work. Soon after the family came to Bartlett, Mr. Wacker died and burial was in the city cemetery. Mrs. Wacker was a gentle, humble, devoted, Christian mother. She was a faithful member of St. John's Luteran Church and the Ladies Aid, helping along where she could. Her pastor said Wednesday: "Her life must have been like an open Bible, for children to read, and to remember; to direct us to things that last, and lead us to a glorious eternity. She leaves to morn all her children, Mrs. Frank Ordner, E. F. Wacker, Idabel, OK; G. F. Wacker, Paul's Valley, OK; Mrs. Tillie Breihan, Bartlett, TX; Mrs. Slema Bolton, Davis, OK; B. E. Wacker, Bartlett, TX; J. A. Wacker, Bartlett, TX; H. W. Wacker, Norman, OK; also 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers and 2 sisters, and a host of friends.
