Bio

Longtime Seminole resident John M. Novotny went to be with his heavenly Father Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at the age of 59. He was born on May 22, 1942 in Prague to Charlie Novotny and Jewel Jonata Novotny. He graduated from Paden High School in 1961 where he held the longtime record of pole vault and long jump. Mr. Novotny was a self-employed cement contractor for over 30 years. He was known in Seminole and several surrounding counties as the best "Cement Contractor Around." His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening and dancing. He won many special trophies as a worthy competitor, especially in bow hunting. He was a great outdoors man. Throughout his years he had many friends he went hunting and fishing with. He loved to drive his 1961 antique Ford tractor. He grew a large garden each year and would always give fresh vegetables to many friends. He loved to go dancing with his wife, Phyllis. Mr. Novotny was also known for his tremendous strength, courage and his kind and gentle ways. He was a good man. He was raised Catholic and served as an altar boy for many years at the National Shrine of the Infant Jesus in Prague. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Novotny. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Phyllis Sherwin of the home. He is also survived by five sisters and three brothers, Dorothy and George Kroos and Jane and Jim McGill of Prague, Louise and Raz Wilkerson and Jean and Lester Quary of Meeker, Nancy and Tony Cagle of Shawnee, Frank and Doris Novotny of Prague and Jim Novotny and Don Novotny, both of Seminole. He is survived by nineteen nieces and nephews and their families. Graveside services for are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2002 at Little Cemetery. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate.
