Bio

Charles "Charlie" E. Vestal, 91, of Waco, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at Renew Church, 6509 Bosque Blvd, with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Charlie was born March 1, 1932 in Waxahachie to James Asbury Vestal and Ollie Day Vestal. Charlie moved to the Waco area at an early age, attended University High School and served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He then went to work for Texas Meter & Device in Waco and soon after met the love of his life, Jean Waddell. Charlie was employed for 48 years as manager of Lake Air Bowling Lanes where he promoted and taught the sport, developed many lasting friendships and was inducted for his ability and commitment into both the local and state USBC Hall of Fame. He was a member of Renew Church, formerly Lakewood Christian Church, for many years. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, compassion for others and his love of spending quality time with his family and many friends. Charlie was a loving husband, father, PaPa and friend who will be missed dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ollie Vestal; father, James Asbury Vestal; his sister, Helen Detterman; and his brothers, George Vestal and James Vestal. Charlie is survived by his wife of 59 years, two daughters, grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
