Son of James 'Henry' Johnson and Mary "Mollie" Elizabeth (Stogsdill) Johnson. Twin brother of Josephine 'Josie' Jane Johnson. Per MO Death certificate #22474, burial 20/Jul/1915. Name on death certificate and in obituary is OSIE. Name in Oregon County History book, p.192 is OZZIE. ~~~~~ Osie Johnson, Son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Johnson, Succumbs to Malaria at the age of Fifteen Years. The sable winged messenger again descended into our midst and kissed to sleep one of the town's fairest youths, Osie Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Johnson. Osie was born July 14, 1900 and died July 19, 1915 and was therefore 15 years and 5 days of age at death. He was taken sick at the farm at Many Springs on Friday but he was not thought to be serious. His father and mother were here at Alton and when notified Saturday went down to see about him and decided he was in for a spell of sickness and early Sunday morning brought him to Alton, where everything possible was done to relieve him, but medicines and good nursing seemed to do him no good and he passed away at 3:30 p.m. Monday. His trouble was pernicious malaria. Osie was a leader and a favore among the boys of his set here in Alton as well as the idol of his parents, brothers and sisters; and his sudden death was a severe shock to all his young friends and acquaintances and to his family the sorrow was almost intolerable, except for the fact that he had professed conversion, which at a time like this comes as a great balm to the torn and broken hearts of the parents. Yet after giving this fact full consideration, it is hard for the parent, when their loved ones are snatched away so unceremoniously, to give it up and feel "Thy will be done." That such heart problems require time and that alone can only, after a fashion, heal the wound. The family have the sympathy of the entire community in this their great sorrow. The funeral services were conducted at the home by their pastor, Rev. H. M. Bunyard at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning, where a large crowd of people assembled to pay their last sad respects. Burial was had at the Lance cemetery near Many Springs, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. (SOUTH MISSOURIAN DEMOCRAT of Alton, MO, 22/Jul/1915)
