MARIETTA Services for Honsley P. "Pete" Hunt, 87, will be 10 a.m. today at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Roluti officiating and the Rev. Terry Hyman delivering the eulogy. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Leon Cemetery. Born Jan. 19, 1921, in Ringling to George Prentice and Laura Tanner Hunt, he died Feb. 27, 2008, in a Marietta health care facility. He was preceded in death by his parents; three stepsons, Thurman Gilbert, Glen Gilbert and Carol Gilbert; and a step-granddaughter, Stefanie Gwin. He married Leota Odessa Buckhanon Dec. 29, 1982, in Marietta. A resident of southern Oklahoma all of his life, Mr. Hunt was a lab technician. After earning his degree at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C., he worked from 1972 to 2006 at several labs and hospitals in this area, including Mercy Health Love County in Marietta. Mr. Hunt was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 45th Division, U.S. Army, from 1938 to 1945. During that time he was awarded numerous medals including Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Service Medal and the Victory Medal. He was a member of the Medical Technologist Association, past president of Sooner Brittany Club, past president of Southern Oklahoma Brittany Club and past president of the Carter County Quail Hunters Association. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. Mr. Hunt was Baptist. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a sister, Myrtle Nestler, Stockton, Calif.; four stepsons, Kenneth Gilbert, Healdton, Johnny M. Gilbert, Ardmore, Ricky Gilbert, Ardmore, and Jimmy Gilbert, Leon; five stepdaughters, Martha Thomas, Fort Worth, Texas, Carolyn Gwin, Tulsa, Debra Key, Overbrook, Janice Cantrell, Gainesville, Texas, and Cathy Dalton, Pauls Valley; 14 step-grandchildren; 11 step great-grandchildren; 1 step great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Bearers are Kenneth Gilbert, Ricky Gilbert, Johnny M. Gilbert, Jimmy W. Gilbert, Clayton Bratcher and Brock Thomas. Honorary bearers are Dr. J.T. O'Connor, Dr. Vergil Smith, Danny Childers, Alec Gilbert, Gil Gilbert, Jason Abshire, Johnny Abshire, Craig Sparks and the staff of Mercy Health Love County.
