Willis Wayne Smith of Robert Lee, Texas passed from this life on February 6, 2023, at the age of 95. He was born on May 13, 1927, in Bronte, Texas to Robbie Willis and Lois Mae Smith. He was a resident of Robert Lee from the age of 5. He graduated from Robert Lee High School and attended San Angelo College. He married Wanda Marie Mauldin, his high school sweetheart, on March 2, 1949. They had two children and were married for 68 years until Wanda passed away in 2016. Willis was employed by the Robert Lee State Bank for 44 years and retired at age 65. He was also a rancher/farmer for his entire life and considered ranching his true vocation. Willis served as a member or officer in many organizations including community development programs, Coke County Farmers Association, Veterans Land Board, Coke County Game and Wildlife Association and many others. He was active in forming the Mountain Creek Golf Association and involved in building the golf course and club house. He was also involved in the Coke County Parks Association, the Red Canyon Gun Club and was a supporter of the Coke County Livestock Show. Willis is survived by his two children, daughter Robbie Jane Beal, and husband Lynn, and son Stephen Wayne Smith. He has four grandchildren Bethany Miller, Amanda Rung, and husband Brian, Ashley Monroe, and husband Bronc, Colin Beal, and wife Julie, three great grandchildren are Charles Miller, Caroline Beal and Jack Beal and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; parents, Robbie Willis and Lois Mae Smith; brother, Royce Smith and sister-in-laws, Lynn Doris Smith, Olene Sims, Betty Lammers and Melba Mauldin. Brother-in-laws Charles Sims, Wendell Lammers and Don Mauldin and parent-in-laws Thelma and Jim Mauldin. Services will be Friday, February 10, 2023 at the Robert Lee Cemetery at 10:00am. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Shaffer Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Mountain Creek Golf Association or to a charity of your choice.
