Bio

Betty Joan Kinder, 89, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, died there of natural causes on the evening of Saturday, January 21, 2023, in Oklahoma City. She was born April 13, 1933, the second of four children to Ralph and Urcie Keffer in Waynoka, Oklahoma. She attended Waynoka High School before entering the work force in multiple capacities, including positions with the FDIC. In October 1958, Betty married the love of her life, Robert L Kinder. The two were inseparable and spent their years together traveling the country before settling down in Jones, Oklahoma. They loved hunting with their bird dogs, fishing, and camping during their many years living in Portland, Oregon. They collected unique rocks, and created beautiful jewelry pieces for their side business, Northwest GemCrafters. In Jones, Bob and Betty opened a substantial ceramics business, which showcased Betty's incredible artistic talent. They called it the Pour Farm. They grew gardens and canned vegetables. During the holidays they transformed their kitchen into a veritable confectionary, producing fabulous candies they delighted in distributing. Betty loved playing games, which always ignited her infectious laughter. She faithfully volunteered at election precincts. In later years, Betty and Bob reveled in dancing. They even reached a certain level of "local celebrity" status walking, hand-in-hand, in Oklahoma Memorial Marathons. Individually, Betty was sharp minded, creative with acute attention to fine detail, a spirited advocate, an exceptional cook, and a devoted wife. She participated in various social organizations, but most recently dedicated her service to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Jones, Oklahoma. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, sister Evelyn, and brother Earl Dean. She is survived by her older sister, Jeanne L. Smith, along with several beloved nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her dearest friend to the end, Clella Estep. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 14 February, at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, Jones, Oklahoma.
