Bio

Military Service 1971-1973, Vietnam, U.S. Marine Corps. A Celebration of His Life and gathering will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 from 2–4 p.m. at Crete VFW. Larry L. Lance was born June 24, 1950, in Seward, Nebraska to Edmund and Mildred (Bargman) Lance, the oldest of five children and died Sunday, November 20, 2016, at his home near Crete at the age of 66. He attended Seward High School and later received his GED. Larry attended Law Enforcement School at Grand Island. He married Shirley Kasl July 6, 1968 in Friend, Nebraska and to this union four children, Tim, Kym, Jim and Jesse were born. Larry served with the US Marine Corp from 1971 to 1973 during the Vietnam Conflict. Together they made their home in Seward, Hickman and finally near Crete. Over the years, Larry served as a guard and kitchen manager at the Penitentiary in Lincoln and later worked as the city police officer for the Village of Hickman. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing the guitar, bingo and going to gun shows. For many years, he played with the Platte Valley Countrymen trio, winning numerous vocal awards. He was a devoted father, loving his children, grandchildren, his great grandson, and was very proud of all their accomplishments. Larry is survived by his wife, Shirley of Crete, children and spouses, Tim and Tina Lance, Hickman, Kym Lance, Lincoln, Jim and Kelly Lance, Lincoln, Jesse Lance, Crete; grandchildren, Cameron and Beth, Skye, Casey and Kaylee, Shelby, Terra, and Joslynn, and Levi, great-grandson, Weston, mother, Mildred Lance, Lincoln, brothers and sisters and spouses, Linda and Dave Babcock, Lincoln, Linda Birkes-Lance, Seward, Dennis and Lora Pierce, Keller, TX, Eddie and Robin Lance, Omaha, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends, and especially his pet dog, Sammi. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Edmund Lance, brother, Les Lance, several cousins, uncles, aunts, friends and a special pet and buddy, Jake.
