THACKERVILLE Services for Otha Carr "Coot" McLaughlin, 90, are Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Thackerville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Matthew Weathers and Robby Peyrot officiating. Interment will follow at New Resthaven Cemetery in Gainesville, Texas. Born March 1, 1917, in Thackerville, to Doc Henry and Jessie Pearl Hudson, Otha passed from this life into the presence of the Lord on Feb. 20, 2008, in the Gainesville hospital. Otha attended school in Decatur, Park Springs and Turkey Creek, Texas, graduating from Thackerville High School after moving back in the 7th grade. She was a preacher's kid, "PK," and endured several moves as a result. After returning to Thackerville, she met, fell in love with, and married Iven J. McLaughlin on Dec. 27, 1941, in Ardmore. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1976. She was also preceded by her parents; brother, Henry Hudson; and great-grandson, Colton Powell. Mrs. McLaughlin was a homemaker, and very active in Thackerville First Baptist Church, teaching the Adult Women's Sunday School class for many years. She helped organize the first Senior Citizens Center. "Coot," as she was known by friends and family, was always tending to the needs of others. Survivors include a son, Iven J. McLaughlin Jr. and wife, Deborah, Gainesville; two grandsons, Daniel Powell and wife, Shelly, and Chad Trammell and fiance', Bernadette Miller, all of Gainesville; granddaughter, Chastity Eugster and husband, Brent, Gainesville; eight grandchildren; a sister, Luna Langston, Marietta. Bearers are nephews, Jim Langston, Dutch Langston, Eddie Langston, Jeff Langston, Dale Scivally and Danny Scivally.
