Bio

MARIETTA, OKLA. — Services for Luna E. Langston, 99, of Marietta, Okla., will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, in Marietta's First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Tommy Higle, the Rev. Lawrence Anderson and Randy McFarland. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta, Okla., under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home. The daughter of Doc Henry and Jessie Hudson, Mrs. Langston was born March 2, 1914, in a log cabin near Blue Lake, Okla., a small settlement not far from Thackerville. She went home to her Lord and to be reunited with a host of loved ones on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, in Mercy Health Love County in Marietta, Okla. Mrs. Langston had a long, rich life and lived it to the fullest. She and E.H. "Brandy" Langston were married in Ardmore on Sept. 21, 1933, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2004. Mrs. Langston had a thirst for knowledge and learning, expressing it by obtaining a double master's degree and then pouring herself into the lives of her students at Marietta High School where she taught for more than 20 years. She also taught Sunday School, starting at 11 years old and retiring from this privilege when she was in her 80s. Mrs. Langston had been an active member of Marietta's First Baptist Church since the 1960s. She spent her last couple of years first in the Village Lodge assisted living in Ardmore, Okla., and then Lake Country Nursing Center in Marietta. The years took her vision and most of her hearing so she spent her remaining time on earth encouraging others. She is survived by her children: daughters, Doris Scivally and husband Thurman of Gainesville and Barbara Hunt of Thackerville and Tena Lee, also of Gainesville; daughter-in-law, Betty Langston of Robson Ranch; sons, Jim Langston and wife Stephanie and Dutch Langston and wife Ann, all of Thackerville; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gerald Langston; infant daughter, Lou Jessamine; son-in-law, Buddy Hunt; sister, Otha McLaughlin; and brother, Henry George Hudson. Serving as casket bearers will be Eddie Langston, Jeff Langston, Steve Langston, Micah Hunt, Dale Scivally and Junior McLaughlin.
