Bio
Jean Ardell Sheesley was born on 6 March 1933, in Hector, Renville County, Minnesota, to Merwyn and Helen Jacobson Sheesley. She grew up in Fairfax and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1951. After graduation, Jean worked, for a few years, as a legal secretary in the Twin Cities, where she met William "Bill" Serbus, Jr. They were married on 4 September 1952, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bechyn. Jean and Bill made their home on the Serbus family farm in Henryville Township, Renville County, where Jean was a homemaker and Bill farmed and operated a machine shop. Jean cooked fabulous meals, baked delicious goodies, and kept an amazingly clean home. While they lived on the farm, Jean was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bechyn and later St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia. She was an active member of the altar society and helped serve many church dinners. Following Bill's death in 1997, Jean moved to Willmar, where she worked at the West Central Tribune and served samples at CashWise Foods. She became a member of the Church of St. Mary, was active at the Willmar Senior Center, and worked with the widows' support group. Jean enjoyed taking bus trips, visiting casinos, and wintering in Arizona for several years. She loved spending time with her family and friends; and especially enjoyed playing cards with Kitty, Irene and Ginny, and her annual school shopping trips with her grandchildren. Jean Ardell Sheesley Serbus, of Willmar, died at the age of 89, on Sunday, 3 April 2022, at Bethesda Grand Nursing Home in Willmar, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. She was survived by her three sons: Terry (Val) Serbus of Olivia, Randy (Sarah) Serbus of Phoenix, Arizona, and Brad (Rose) Serbus of Willmar; three grandchildren: Tiffany (Andy) Serbus-Gustaveson and their daughter Vivienne, Joshua (Toni) Serbus, and Kassidy (Andrew) Carriger and their son, Jackson; and, two step-grandsons: David and Joe Keith Jean was preceded in death by her parents: Merwyn and Helen Sheesley; and her husband: William "Bill" Serbus, Jr. Her Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, 8 April 2022, at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation was one hour prior to the funeral service. Jean was buried next to her husband, in the St. Aloysius Cemetery, in Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota.
