The Deseret News April 4, 1996 page B17 David Gerald (Jerry) Lunnen, age 83, died April 3, 1996 in Sandy, Utah of cancer. Born November 30, 1912 to Albert C. and Elvina Jensen Lunnen. Married Audrey Mace September 26, 1936 in Crescent, Utah. He played football, basketball, baseball and track for Jordan High School and the University of Utah. He was one of the "Four Norsemen" at Jordan High. He loved all sports. Coached Pony League when his grandsons played. Loved golf and horses. He lobbied legislature for a retirement program for the Utah Highway Patrol. He was a farmer, crossing guard and guard at the Utah State Territorial Prison in Sugarhouse. Chief of Sandy City Police Dept., Assistant Superintendent for the Utah Highway Patrol. He retired from UHP after 25 years of service. Survivors: wife of 60 years; four daughters, Delores (Paul) Meyrick, Murray; Sharon (Sherri) Lunnen, Sandy; Linda (Ralph) Eyre, Monroe; Carol Lee (Ron) Christensen, Sandy; 11 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dora Wellington, Salt Lake. Preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters. Special thanks to Dr. Richard Bennett and nursing staff at Alta View Hospital, and his home healthcare nurse, Carol Lee. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 9, 1996, at 11 a.m. at the Crescent 30th Ward, 89 East 11000 South. Friends may call Monday, 6-8 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State, and Tuesday, one hour prior at the church. Interment, Crescent City Cemetery.
