Alvina Irene Buchhammer, 80, of Scottsbluff, formerly a longtime resident of Minatare, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the Residency Care Center with family by her side. Her Funeral will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 16 at the Zion Evangelical Church at Scottsbluff with Pastor Garry Schick officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery at Scottsbluff. Memorials have been established to the Church, Prairie Haven Hospice, or the Residency Care Center. Friends may call at the Jolliffe Funeral Home at Scottsbluff from 10:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, February 15. Her Obituary may be viewed at www.jolliffefuneralhome.com, where condolences may be left for Alvina's family. Alvina was born August 23, 1927 to Lydia and Fredrick Rein in Minatare. She grew up attending schools in the Bayard area. Alvina married Harry Buchhammer on January 18, 1948. They made their home behind a small Conoco station East of Minatare that Harry had purchased in 1947. Together they built what became Harry's Truck Stop, Motel, Mobile Home Park and Chef Café'. Alvina managed the Café' from 1968 until 2002. Both Harry and Alvina were actively involved with the business for 55 years until their retirement in August of 2002. Although Alvina was often the silent partner, her strength and dedication was a guiding force throughout the years. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Church and former member of the Ladies Guild. Alvina enjoyed watching her Cornhuskers, Rockies, Nuggets, and Broncos. She spent her last evening cheering her Nuggets to an over-time win. Alvina was an inspiration to her beloved family as she faced life with eternal optimism, quiet strength and faith. Her smile will now be eternal to those of us who love her and miss her. Survivors include her daughters Janel Nuss and her husband Walter of Minatare and Teri Nelson and her husband Scott of Lincoln; grandchildren Tory Kerns and her husband Will of Lincoln, Cameron Nuss of Denver, Coby Nuss of Thibodaux, LA, TyRee Royal and Heather of Lincoln; great-grandchildren Jacob, Thea and Bennett Kerns of Lincoln, William Nuss of Thibodaux, LA, and Deonte' Royal of Lincoln; sister Marie Kraus of Denver; many nieces, nephews as well as her beloved and loyal dog ‘Soogie' who was always by her side. Her parents, husband Harry, brothers Fred and Harry, sisters Leta, Esther, and Lea preceded Alvina in death.
