Transcription of Obituary from The Bryan Eagle 1908 DEATH OF MR. OWEN SHAW A Good Citizen of the County Cut Down in His Young Manhood Mr. Owen Shaw died at 1 o'clock this morning at his home in the Holligan Chapel community after an illness of several weeks with typhoid fever. His life had hung in the balance for several weeks, but he held out bravely, and his relatives and friends hoped against hope that a change would come for the better. He was given every care that the tender ministering of loving hands and medical skill could give, but he gradually grew weaker and weaker until the flickering taper life was burned out, and he was at rest. Owen was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Shaw and was born and reared in Steep Hollow community. He was about 22 years of age had just entered young manhood and gave promise of a splendid and useful citizenship. He was married during last winter to Miss Emma Hartsfield and the hearts of the people of the entire community go out in tender sympathy to the girl wife, now left in deepest widowhood. He was a true christian and a member of the Baptist church and throughout his long illness bore his suffering with a patience and fortitude that comes only though faith in God. Besides his father and mother he leaves several brothers and sisters to mourn his death and they have the deep sympathy of their many friends. He was laid to rest at Steep Hollow at 5 o'clock this afternoon with the funeral services being conducted by Rev. J. M. Bullock who baptized him when he united with the church.
