Earl Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 4, for John Emery Earl, 82, at the Methodist church in Colome, South Dakota, with Rev. Paul W. Caton officiating. J. E. was a former Madison county resident. John Emery Earl , son of the late George and Martha Earl, was born in Gentry county, Missouri, on February 9, 1878. He passed away on December 31, 1960, at the Rosebud community Hospital at the age of 82 years. In 1880, he moved with his parents to Madison county. Here he was united in marriage to Mary Kucera on September 17, 1901. To this union, two children were born. They moved to South Dakota in 1920 where they were engaged in farming and ranching in Tripp and Gregory counties until moving to Colome in 1938 where he resided until his death. This past fall Mr. and Mrs. Earl celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary with their family and friends. He leaves behind his wife, Mary; one son, Arthur, Colome, South Dakota; a daughter, Mrs. Hugo (Mildred) Kindt, Winner, South Dakota; one sister, Cassa Penhollow, Monroe, Nebraska; two grandchildren. He joins his parents, three brothers and five sisters that have passed on.
