Verda M. Shook, 96, Sunrise Manor, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1992, at the nursing home after a short illness. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Smith, pastor of First Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Shook, the former Verda M. Stephen, was born July 17, 1896, in Montezuma, Iowa, and was a longtime Sioux City resident. She married Samuel S. Shook in November 1952 in Sioux City. He died Oct. 20, 1968, in Sioux City. She taught school in the Sioux City School System for more than 40 years. Mrs. Shook was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, First Congregational United Church of Christ and the Women's Club. Survivors include three brothers, Paul, Walter and Orrin Stephen, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and 14 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, R. J., Clarence, George, Frederick and Francis V. Stephen; and a sister, Mabel. The Sioux City Journal, October 27, 1992
