Mother's Maiden Name: Bolen Former Scotts Valley police Sgt. William A. Veselka died Wednesday at his home in Scotts Valley after a lengthy illness. He was 57. A native of Angleton, Texas, Mr. Veselka was drafted into the Army shortly after graduating from Angleton High School. He was stationed at Fort Ord, and decided to live in Scotts Valley after he left the service in 1962. Mr. Veselka joined the Scotts Valley Police Department in 1970 when its regular force totaled four officers. He rose to the rank of sergeant before leaving the department in 1974 for health reasons. He took a job in the private security management field. "He really cared about the town," said police Chief Steve Walpole. "And he was real dedicated to the department." In his spare time, Mr. Veselka enjoyed fishing and camping. He is survived by his wife, Linda Veselka, Scotts Valley; two sons, Gary Veselka of Aptos and Lane Veselka of Modesto; one daughter. Krista Veselka of Scotts Valley; three brothers, Frank Veselka of Danbury, Texas, Jack Veselka of Angleton, Tetfas, and John Veselka of Kirkwood, Texas; one sister, Laura Veselka, of Alvin, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Neighborhood Church, 225 Rooney St., Santa Cruz. Arrangements are by Santa Cruz Memorial Park Funeral Home.
