From an undated newspaper clipping in family documents, #1 Obituary A faithful, good man has been called from labor to reward. William Higdon was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, October 12th, 1825. Died at his home in Newpoint, August 1, 1905, aged 77 years, 9 months and 19 days. He came to Ripley county in 1849, and to Decatur in 1891. He was married to Miss Emarine (sic) Culver Nov. 11, 1849. To them was born one child, now Mrs. Geo. Ray, of Newpoint. Brother Higdon united with the Christian church in 1849, and was a charter member of the church in Newpoint. As a husband, he was agreeable and kind; as a father, affectionate and devoted; as a neighbor, loved and respected; as a Christian, consistent and faithful. He lived to help and bless all around him, was a happy, joyful soul, and died in peace with God and men. Funeral services were held in the Christian church, conducted by Rev. H. Morrow. From an undated newspaper clipping in family documents, #2 Newpoint Uncle Will Higdon, who has been a sufferer for many years of cancer, died at his home in the west part of town, Tuesday evening, August 1st, aged 79 years. He leaves a widow, one daughter, Mrs. George Ray, one granddaughter, Mrs. Samuel Riley, a great-grandson, Harry Tingle, and many friends who mourn for him. From an undated newspaper clipping in family documents, #3 DEATH OF WM. HIGDON William Higdon, aged 79 years, one of the oldest residents of Newpoint, died at his home in that town at about ten o'clock on Tuesday night, after a long period of suffering from cancer. His wife and one daughter, Mrs. George Ray, survive. The funeral will be held at two o'clock on Friday afternoon, and his remains will be interred in the Rossburg cemetery.
