Marvin L. Pickhinke, 88, of Howells, died Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the Clarkson Community Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Oct 13, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells with Fr. Stan Schmit officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 until 7 with a 7 p.m. vigil service all at the church. Interment will be in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery with lunch following at the Howells Catholic Social Hall. Marvin Luis Pickhinke was born on July 30, 1934, in rural Howells on the family farm to John and Barbara (Vesely) Pickhinke. Marvin attended school in Howells until he was needed full time at home to help with the farm. On April 23, 1953, Marvin married Lucille Tschantre at Wilson church. Marv was a lifelong farmer, worked as a mechanic for several years, a blacksmith, parts manager, as well as sold feed for several years. Marv and Lucille loved traveling, and both were very proud of the fact that they had made it to all 50 of the United States. The couple also traveled abroad with the Moostash Joe tours and were able to see much of Europe. Marv enjoyed listening to polka music, going to coffee with the guys in the morning, and collecting International Tractor models. After retirement, Marv picked up the art of model building and had built several scale models from scratch of area churches, many of which are not still standing. Marv was also a guide for several foreign exchanges students who had traveled to the area over the years. Marvin is survived by his sons: sons: Gary (Lori) of Howells, Larry (Karen) of Lincoln, Dennis (Joyce) of Howells, Duane of Missouri, and Russell of Howells. 11 Grandchildren and 13 Great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Daniel (Alice) Tschantre of Columbus. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucille in 2020, daughter-in-law Kathy Pickhinke, grandson Dustin Pickhinke, grandson-in-law Jeremy Carder, brother Richard Pickhinke, and sister Dorothy Janousek.
