Funeral services for McRay McGee, 92, of Springfield will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Cooper Funeral Home of Athens. Burial will follow in the Price's Chapel Cemetery in Anderson County. Mr. McGee passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, in Athens. He was born Jan. 29, 1916 in Anderson County to Richard and Elizabeth Gage McGee. Mr. McGee lived all of his life in the Springfield community of Anderson County and in 1936 he married Lou Etta Hanks. He was a former employee of Curtis Mathis and retired from Redman Industries with over 20 years service. He was a cattle rancher and a member of the Springfield United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lou Etta, in 2007; son, Mike McGee, in 1967; and a granddaughter, Michelle McGee, in 1987. Mr. McGee is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Reba McGee of Athens, Keith and Dorothy McGee of Springfield, Larry McGee of Springfield; brother and sister-in-law, R.W. "Dub" and Virginia McGee of Denver, Colo.; sister, Ester Saxon of Murchison; grandchildren, Ken McGee Jr., Alisha Mikkelsen, Tammy Poole, Brenda Nieman, Debbie Campbell, Mack McGee, Melissa McGee and Jeff McGee; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Ken McGee Jr., John Mikkelsen, Tommy Campbell, Mike Nieman, Mack McGee, Ricky Green and Jeff McGee. The family will receive condolences at the Cooper Funeral Home of Athens from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
