' Frances (Settle) Johnson was born on January 14, 1909 in Gallatin, Sumner County, Tennessee, the daughter of John William Settle (1864–1927) and Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" (Brezidine) Settle (1869–1936). She was the secretary for Bruce R Payne, who was President of Peabody College, and she was married on August 2, 1932 at First Presbyterian Church of Gallatin to Dr Hollis Eugene Johnson (Apr 1893–1990), son of Hollis Eugene Johnson Sr (1861–Oct 1892) and Martha Reuben "Ruby" (Roach) Johnson (1868–1952). Frances was a long-time member and past president of the Centennial Club, a member of the Gray Ladies in World War II and a long-time member of Belmont Heights Baptist Church where she was past president of the Women of the Church. She was 99 years old and had lung cancer when she passed away on July 6, 2008. Frances was preceded in death by her husband Dr Hollis E Johnson, son Dr John S Johnson and by her sisters Martha Settle and Ruby Nell Derryberry. Survivors included two married sons, a widowed daughter-in-law, two married Derryberry nephews, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Celebration of Life Services were held on July 10th at Belmont Heights Baptist Church, {This memorial has been placed in Woodlawn Memorial Park, because that was where her husband of 58 years was buried. Although her obituary DID NOT list her place of burial, a message was left with Woodlawn's administration office at 10:10am on October 5, 2022, to see if they would verify that she was buried there.
