Coy Derl Hughes November 25, 1947 ~ September 20, 2022 (age 74) Meadowbrook Funeral Home Beloved husband, cherished father, grandfather, and great grandfather, treasured brother, uncle and friend, Coy Derl Hughes, age 74, passed away in Mooringsport, LA on September 20, 2022. Coy was born November 25, 1947 in Sulphur Springs, TX to Derl Gene Hughes and Opal Ruth Price Hughes. On July 19, 1968, he married the love of his life, Barbara Ann McHenry. Coy worked for the US Postal Service and retired as Postmaster in Vivian, LA after a career that spanned over 46 years. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Vietnam era. In the last year, he started working at General Wholesale in the ribbon department and quickly became the "Ribbon Boss". Coy was a member of the Oil City Social Club. He loved music, collecting records and CD's, and planting a garden. Coy enjoyed camping and, especially fishing with his favorite fishing buddy, Little Ben. His brother, Kenneth, was his best friend and they shared a very close bond. He was well loved and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him. Coy was preceded in death by his parents; and his loving wife, Barbara Ann Hughes. He is survived by his daughters, Lori Ranae Taylor (Clay), Sandra Lynn Hughes (John), and Tammy Sue Gamble, aka Squirt, (Frank); grandchildren, Ashley (David), Tyler (Kourtney), Joshua (Megan), Morgan, (Tate), Adam (Kaylyn), Titus (Jessilyn), Raley, and Leah; great grandchildren, Kaleigh Ann and Benjamin Coy, Payton, Emerson Rae, and Simeon; brother, Kenneth Hughes (Mary); sister, Sharon Dulaney (Bill); and numerous nieces, nephews, and family and friends who loved him dearly. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ramadas, Dr. Keerty, and all the staff at Oschner/LSU Hospital and Cancer Center, the staff at NCMC in Vivian, LA, Brooke Mosley and Lorie Watson, and all the staff at Lifepath Hospice Care for the loving and kindness shown to Coy and our family; we are so thankful for each and every one of you! A visitation will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 10:00-11:00 am at Indian Hills Baptist Church, 7131 Old Mooringsport Rd., Shreveport, LA 71107, with the funeral service to follow at 11:30 am. Graveside service will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 3:30 pm in Rockdale Cemetery in Sulphur Springs, TX where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Barbara.
