Bio

Betty M. Ekberg was born on March 1, 1932. Betty passed away suddenly on October 20, 2011, from natural causes. Betty, a dedicated wife, mother and friend to many, was born and grew up in Gering, NE. Betty and her identical twin sister, Bonny, were avid horseback riders, swimmers and ran everywhere they went. They were inseparable throughout her life. Betty married the love of her life, Ethen Ekberg, of Scottsbluff, in 1952. Betty and Ethen started their family with the birth of their son, Scott, in 1954 while Ethen was in the military. The family moved to New Mexico in 1956 and began their 56 years of working and raising a family together in the Rio Grande Valley of northern New Mexico. Betty worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the scientific library and in public relations as part of the Bradbury Science Museum. In 1988, she retired after 25 years of service. Betty had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing and dance. Betty also enjoyed riding horses, hunting, Rving and motorcycle touring. Betty and Ethen traveled extensively after retiring. Betty was particularly fond of their trip to California on the motorcycle and to Alaska in their RV. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Through perseverance and hard work, Betty was able to achieve many successes throughout her life. At different times she was a national shooting champion, bowled numerous perfect games, and was a leader among spouses at the local and national levels in the Elks Association. Above all, Betty exemplified the gift of dedication to family, work and life's pursuits. Betty is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ethen, sister, Bonny Ingwerson (Darrell), son, Scott (Jeni), daughters, Vivian Goodman (Brian) and Denise Ekberg (Eric) and grandchildren Sarah Parks (Michael), Laura Bosserman and Caleb Ekberg. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Beulah Ewing, and brother, Edson Ewing.
