Fort Bend Herald, July 17, 2022: Bernard Frank Marek, Jr., son of Bernard & Annie Laurie Marek, was born July 24, 1945 in Oceanside, CA. His parents moved to Wallis, TX when he was 2 weeks old. He passed away on July 11, 2022 at the age of 76. Bernard was preceded in death by his lifetime sweetheart of 54 years, Janie Marek. He is survived by daughter, Connie Hawley and her husband, Michael, along with his granddaughter, Lauren Hawley; daughter, Christina Stauber and her husband, Peter; brother, Don Marek and wife, Patsy; sister, Marianne Marek; nephew, Dwight Marek; and niece Stephanie Freethy. Bernard graduated from Wallis HS in 1963 and obtained an Associate's Degree from WCJC. He was a Vietnam War Veteran serving in the US Army from 1966 to1972. He and Janie raised their family in Sugar Land, TX. However, Bernard's career as an Oil & Gas Engineer had him working in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Singapore and took the entire family to live abroad in Stavanger, Norway. He loved history and collected coins, stamps, antique tools, and the family genealogy. He served as an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion who loved working Bingo and the Lenten Fish Frys. Everyone who met Bernard knew him as a loving and good man. Visitation will be held Friday, July 15th, from 5 - 7 pm, followed by rosary at Knesek and Sons Funeral Home in Wallis. On Saturday, July 16th, a 10 am mass and 11 am funeral services will be held at Guardian Angel Church in Wallis. A celebration of life will follow at the American Legion Hall. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery.
