Bio

Fort Bend Herald, March 25, 2020: Janie Lou Marek, daughter of Joseph & Roberta Bednarski, was born November 4, 1948, in Sugar Land, Texas. She passed away March 21, 2020 at the age of 71. Janie is survived by her lifetime sweetheart, Bernard F. Marek, Jr., whom she married on January 20, 1967, in Tacoma, Washington while Bernard was enlisted in the Army. Janie is also survived by her two daughters, Connie Hawley, and son-in-law, Michael Hawley, along with her granddaughter, Lauren Hawley, Christina Stauber, and her husband, Peter Stauber, and her younger sister, Bonnie Sexton. She was preceded in death by her older sister and brother, Marie LeBeck, and Robert Bednarski. Janie lived in Sugar Land, TX, the majority of her life. Bernard’s career took the entire family to live abroad in Stavanger, Oslo, as well as creating additional opportunities to travel to other exciting places such as Switzerland, Italy, Germany, England, Denmark, and Singapore. Janie worked in many fields over her lifetime, including being a keypunch operator at both Imperial Sugar and Shell Oil, mortgage writing for General Homes, and administrative work for Dr. offices. She loved her church activities, cooking, and baking, as well as her bingo and gambling trips with family and friends. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday at 10 AM at the Guardian Angel Cemetery near Wallis, TX.
