Ludvick "Sonny" B. Janota Aug. 15, 1931 — Jan. 15, 2008 Sonny was born in El Campo, Texas, the son of Joseph and Veronica (Novosad) Janota. He grew up in the Scio area. After living in the Stayton and Salem areas, he and wife Joyce "Jo" (Henderson) relocated their family to Alaska in 1973. In Alaska, Sonny and Jo raised their three children in Anchorage and Kenai, residing there until 2002. He worked in the lumber and building supply industry and owned two bars and restaurants during his lifetime in Oregon and Alaska. For the last 10 years, he commercial fished salmon during the summers in Alaska. Jo passed away in May 2002 and Sunny started traveling and visiting his children in the lower 48 and Alaska. He decided to move back to the Scio area around 2003 to be close to old friends and family. He lived in Scio with his special friend, Jean Bacak, for the last four years. He is survived by children Renee Janota of Michigan, Jerri and husband Mike Chivers of Alaska, and John and wife Magaly Janota of Virginia; grandchildren Travis, Trenton and Kellyn Beish, Makayla and Dain Chivers, and Jared, Jacob and Isabella Janota; great-grandchildren Melysa and Owen Beish; sisters and spouses Millie and Tommy Konopa, and Mary and "Mac" McDaniel; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be at the home of Keith and Nonna Boyanovsky, 38572 Jefferson-Scio Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Diabetes Association.
