Bio

Ludmilla Mary (Janota) Konopa of Albany passed away Wednesday at Wynwood of Albany. Millie was born in Albany to Veronica (Novosad) and Joseph J. Janota, who were both born in Czechoslovakia. As a child Millie lived in Albany and then a farm on Hungry Hill north of Crabtree, where she attended the former Franklin Butte School. Millie married Thomas J. Konopa, Jr. in 1946 and they built their first home in Crabtree and raised their four children. Millie and Tom owned a slaughterhouse on their small farm. Millie and Tom were of Czechoslavakian descent and many Czech families set up home around the Albany, Crabtree and Scio areas in the early 1900's. Their entertainment was polka dancing at the many grange halls around the Crabtree/Scio area. Millie made the best Czech Kolaches and Chleba (sweet breads) her family will always remember. She was a natural master gardener. Her relatives and friends helped build St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Scio. In 1972 they moved back to Albany. After Tom retired in 1982, he and Millie moved to Imnaha, Enterprise and then Joseph. They moved to the Woodburn Senior Estates in 1997 and then to Wynwood of Albany in 2013. Millie was preceded in death, October 2014, by her husband Tom of 68 years. She is survived by her son Steve and wife Sharon Konopa of Albany; daughters Cathy and husband Rick Wyatt of Brush Prairie, Wash., Mary and husband Bob Bjornstedt of Lacomb, Barbara Gaidosh of Astoria; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and her sister Mary McDaniel of Lacomb. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Ludwig (Sonny) Janota and Joseph Janota, both of Scio. Mass of the Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 9th, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Scio. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Albany or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, in Scio.
