Bio

Billy Joe Marek, 54, of Lacy Lakeview, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellmead with Father Timothy Vaverek officiating. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery in West. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Bellmead Funeral Home. Billy Joe was born in Waco, Texas, to Ben C. and Wilma (Grmela) Marek. He graduated from Connally High School in 1973 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and S.P.J.S.T. Lodge in Cottonwood. He worked for Sears, Clover Cleaners, and Red Rooster Cafe. His first love was spending time with his great-nieces and nephews and sharing his huge collection of airplanes and his love of the great outdoors. He was preceded in death by his father; and a niece, Katherine Duckworth. Survivors include his mother, Wilma Marek; sisters, Betty Scheler and Lee Roy, and Rose Duckworth and Steve; brother, Ben C. Marek, Jr.; nieces, Melissa Wilson and Chris, and Mary Duckworth; nephews, Stephen and James Duckworth; and great-nieces and nephews, Jasmine, Mya, Colbey, and Xavier.
