Bio
Joe R. Miriovsky was born December 8, 1924, in Seward to Frank and Bettie (Hain) Miriovsky and died December 14, 2016, in David City at the age of 92 years and 6 days. Joe grew up in the Bee area where he attended country school. He then attended two years of high school in Garland and then graduated from Assumption High School in Dwight in 1942. Joe began his long farming career with his father in the Bee area. On April 6, 1948, Joe married Dorothy Kobza at Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight. The couple then moved to the farm in the Brainard area where they farmed for 68 years. Joe and Dorothy did everything together from raising cattle, hauling grain and even cleaning out bins. They were a great team. Joe loved playing cards, games, fishing, wood working and carpentry work at his kid's homes. Joe and Dorothy also enjoyed traveling to Rome, Alaska, Hawaii and different places on the East and West coasts. Joe was a long time member of Assumption Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Catholic Workmen. He also served as a trustee at Assumption and was on the School Board for Assumption school. Joe was a quiet and humble man who was very unassuming. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Mary Navratil and Phyllis Kantor, and brother Frank Miriovsky. Joe is survived by his wife Dorothy of David City, four children, John Miriovsky and wife Barb of Lincoln, Pat Markham and husband Mark of Atlantic, IA, Ruth Polacek and husband Darrell of Lincoln, Judy Miriovsky of Omaha, one sister Betty Smith of Seward, seven grandchildren Ben Miriovsky and wife Amy, Dan Miriovsky and wife Melanie, Adam Polacek, Aaron Polacek and wife Rachel, Beth Markham, Claire Markham and Sam Markham, nine great grandchildren, sister-in-law Lillian Kobza of Seward, two brothers-in-law Gilbert Kobza and wife Florence of Seward and John Kobza of Columbus and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
