Bio

Nannie Blanche January is the Daughter of C. Derous January, Sr. and Melvina Jane "Mollie" Paschall January. Nannie was one of ten children, born to her Parent's, with eight of their children, living to adulthood. Nannie had a younger Brother, James Kelton "Jack" January who voluntarily enlisted in the U. S. Navy, was assigned to the U. S. S. Pensacola, and was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The U. S. S. Pensacola left Pearl Harbor on November 29, 1941, on a convoy mission originally destined for Manilla, in the Phillipine Islands. The U. S. S. Pensacola and her crew, narrowly missed the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941. James Kelton "Jack" January would be killed in action, on November 30, 1942, in a Naval battle called the Battle of Tassafronga, with the Japanese, in the South Pacific Ocean, near Guadalcanal and Savo Island, in an area now called Iron Bottom Sound. Unfortunately, Nannie lived a short life, being born in Van Zandt County, Texas, on March 2, 1911 and passing away in Van Zandt County, Texas, on June 16, 1913. The cause of death, is presently unknown. Nannie had an older Brother, C. Derous "CD" January, Jr., that was born and died, just before her. He was born in Van Zandt County, Texas, on March 13, 1907 and died in Van Zandt County, Texas, on August 30, 1909. The cause of death, is presently unknown. Nannie's Parent's and Brother, C. Derous "CD" January, Jr., are all interred in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery. For this reason, it is likely, that she is also buried there, in the same vicinity.
