http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~neplatte/vitals/vitals1960.html KLUG--Emil Klug, 90, dies, services on Wednesday Emil Klug, 90, a pioneer resident of this community, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday at the Lutheran hospital after an illness of several months. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church with the Rev. J. N. Slice, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Gass Funeral chapel from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of the service. Mr. Klug, a retired farmer was born Jan. 7, 1870 in Canton Bern, Switzerland, the son of Johann and Ann Gisin Klug. He came with his parents to the Shell Creek community six miles northwest of Richland when he was five years old, and receiving his education in the District 8 school in Colfax county. On March 10, 1896, he married Barbara Schmid at her parental home. They retired from farm life in 1919, moving into Columbus where they bought the residence at 2309 15th street. His wife preceded him in death on June 4, 1939. Mr. Klug was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran church. He served on the school board of District 8, Colfax county, for many years and he also was a member of the Farmers Union Local No. 370 and the Farmers Union Elevator at Richland. Surviving are his only son, Arthur, and his sister, Mrs. Herman (Anna) Klug, both of Columbus. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, his parents and three brothers, Louie, William and John. Memorials may be given to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church.
