Joseph Palanuk SPRINGFIELD — The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Nativity of God Ukrainian Catholic Church in Springfield for Joseph "Joe" Palanuk of Springfield. He died Jan. 3 of lung cancer at age 79. He was born Oct. 30, 1928, in Gorham, N.D., to Alex and Polly Sebit Palanuk. He married Ann Palahniuk in 1949 in Gorham. Palanuk graduated from Oakridge High School in 1947. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service for several years and for Weyerhaeuser Company for 35 years. Survivors include his wife; a son, Joe of Boring; four daughters, Carol of Ashland, Denice of Tigard, Karen of Sorrento, Fla., and Sharon of Shoreview, Minn.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Private inurnment will be in Springfield Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Alpha Cremation Services in Springfield. Remembrances to the church for orphanages and villages in Ukraine or to Cascade Hospice in Eugene.
