Charlie Henry Ripper, long-time friend and barber to many generations of Fayette County residents, died Thursday, March 10, 2022, at the age of 96 from post-COVID complications. A lifetime resident of Fayette County and longtime La Grange resident, Charlie was born near Holman, Texas, on March 20, 1925, to Anton and Sophie (Oeltjendiers) Ripper. Charlie owned and operated Charlie's Barbershop in La Grange for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene (Fisher) Ripper; six brothers: Alfred, Tony, Martin, Ervin, Walter, and Bennie Ripper; four sisters: Olga (Ripper) Trojacek, and Susanna, Evelyn, and Dorothy Ripper; father and mother-in-law, John and Vlasta (Bordovsky) Fisher. Charlie is survived by his beloved daughter and only child, Carol Peters and husband, Rick of Austin, TX; one cherished grandson, Ryan Peters of Austin, TX; one sister-in-law, Annie Mae Ripper of Schulenburg, TX; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; his dearest cousins, Ed and Virginia Leech; his fellow barber and close friend of many years, Claude Mertz; and his dear friend and frequent companion, Mary Ann Liebscher.
