Bio

Mary Ann, daughter of William and Mary (Bridgewater) Morgan lived with lots of family nearby for most of her life. She married Samuel McConnell in 1819 in Clark County, Indiana and they moved up to Jackson County in 1829 when Samuel became the pastor for the newly formed Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. He pastored there for 32 years, until his death in 1861. Her last two brothers and her son William's first wife had all died in the 1850s. Her parents had died in 1852 and 1860. Her two sisters and their huge families, as well as a large number of the neighbors had moved to Iowa in the late 1850s. So now her only child that Mary Ann had close by was her son William and his children and new wife. Mary Ann moved in with them and they all lived there near Tampico (while the family increased in number) until they all moved to Iowa in 1873 where her sisters Kesiah and Elizabeth were still living. I believe the only family that was left in Indiana was her grand-daughter Minerva McConnell, who had just married Thomas Jackson Briner in February. Then son William died in 1879, but Mary Ann continued to live with her daughter-in-law Marietta until her death. Mary Ann's life certainly was hard after most of her family died, but it was good that the three sisters were able to be close at the end. Mary Ann and her husband Samuel McConnell were my 4th great grandparents.
