Bio

Albin George Kudlacek was born on February 16, 1923 near Brainard, Nebraska to Theodore and Christie (Ratkovec) Kudlacek. He passed away at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, Nebraska on February 16, 2022, on his 99th birthday. Al was a 1940 graduate of Brainard High School in Brainard, Nebraska. After graduation, he drove a grain truck for his uncle Ray Kudlacek. Al enlisted in the United States Navy on February 23, 1943 during World War II. He spent 3 years serving as a radioman on merchant ships in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Radioman 3rd Class USNR. On his return, his career began in the grain business, having employment in David City, Shelby, Milligan, and Grafton, where he retired. He had a talent for being a multitasking grain manager. During harvest, he was able to weigh trucks, sample grain, use a calculator, take phone calls, while puffing on a Camel cigarette with trucks backed up to Highway 6, all at the same time! Al was married June 11, 1946 to Edith M. Novacek at the Dwight Assumption Catholic Church. To them two children were born, Gary and Rod. Edith passed away as a result of a car accident on February 17, 1963. On January 21, 1971, Al was united in marriage to Irma J. Rischling at St. Helena's Catholic Church in Grafton. Al was a member of the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department, Village Board, Knights Of Columbus, Samuel J. Marsh Geneva VFW Post 7102, and Milligan American Legion HSSK Post 240. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapshooting, and traveling. Al was preceded in death by his parents; wife Edith; son Rod; sister Christina Fiedler; and brothers Ludvik and Bud Kudlacek. He is survived by his wife Irma of Geneva, Nebraska; son Gary Kudlacek and wife Marilyn of Grafton, Nebraska; daughter-in-law Lea Kudlacek of Grafton, Nebraska; grandson Perry Kudlacek of Thurman, Iowa; granddaughter Petra Robinson and husband Mike of Olathe, Kansas; great grandsons Tristan & Dexter; and sister Gladys Hladik of Columbus, Nebraska. A Funeral Mass for Al was held on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Geneva, Nebraska. A Rosary was prayed prior to the Mass at 10:00 a.m. Fathers Harlan Waskowiak and Michael Zimmer presided over the Services. Deb Hoarty accompanied the congregation in the singing of "The Summons," "Lord, When You Came To The Seashore," "Gift Of Finest Wheat," and "Eternal Father, Strong To Save." Pallbearers for the Service included Perry Kudlacek, Mike Robinson, Triston Robinson, Grant Fiedler, Rick Hladik, Dwayne Kudlacek, Robert Unterseher and Richard Hoarty. Military Honors were performed outside the Church following the Mass. They were conducted by the Samuel J. Marsh Geneva VFW Post 7102 and Geneva Sons Of The American Legion. A Graveside Service with Flag Folding and Taps was held in the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska, on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass for Al will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Geneva, Nebraska. A Rosary will precede the Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Harlan Waskowiak and Father Michael Zimmer will concelebrate the Service. Military Honors provided by the Geneva VFW, Sons of the Legion, Geneva American Legion, and Navy Honor guard will be held outside of the Church following the Mass. Public visitation will take place on Sunday, February 20, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
