LeOra "Lorie" Molcyk, 90, of Kearney passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2022 at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Elisabeth Pynn Himmelman officiating and Sister Ruth Rebelein assisting. Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Services are entrusted to O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Lorie was born June 23, 1931 in Diller, NE to George D. and Anna (Hahn) Sasse. The family moved to Steele City when she was 12, and she graduated from Steele City High School in 1948. After graduating, she moved to Lincoln, NE, where she attended business school and worked as a stenographer. On October 25, 1952 she was united in marriage to Ben Molcyk at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lincoln. Ben and Lorie moved to Kearney in 1962. While raising her three children, Lorie also earned many accolades as an Avon saleswoman. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Kearney and a volunteer with the Kearney Area Animal Shelter, First Lutheran Church and the Kearney Archway Monument. She enjoyed flower gardening and was known for her Iris collection. She also loved to read, golf, bowl, and collect recipes and cookbooks. After Ben passed away, Lorie found solace in fostering and adopting homeless cats. Left to cherish her memory are children, Kathy (Brian) Sweeney of Colorado Springs, CO, Bob (Joy) Molcyk of McCook, Barb (Steve) Voigt of Kearney; grandchildren, Paul and Matt Sweeney, Austin (Shannon) Molcyk, Colton (Dawnae Nichols) Molcyk, Brandon Molcyk, Kelsey (Steve) Beckman, Katelyn (Peter) Loogman; great grandchildren, Henry and Leo Beckman, Ezra and Áine Molcyk; as well as extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
