Merle departed this life on October 17, 1999 at the Community Hospital in Torrington, Wyoming. He was born on September 24, 1937 in Aurora, Nebraska to Jacob L and Alice Ruby (Penner) Dick. Merle was the youngest of six children. The family lived in various places while he was growing up. He attended different schools in Nebraska, Washington and Wyoming. In 1993, he earned his GED from the State of Wyoming. Merle entered the US Navy in 1956. He served with the US Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Three. He was stationed at San Francisco, California and deployed to Camp Kubasaki, Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands. Merle was honorably discharged in 1960 and earned the Good Conduct Award Medal. He returned to Torrington, Wyoming and did general labor in the area during his lifetime. Merle married Esther May Frasier on November 5, 1960, in Torrington, Wyoming. To this union two children were born. Merle was cremated and his ashes were scattered at his favorite fishing hole during a private family service. A headstone is being placed at Prairie Rest Cemetery in Guernsey, Wyoming with his wife. Merle was welcomed into heaven by his father Jacob L "Jake" Dick, brother Clifford Emerson Dick, sister Donna Lee (Dick) Laird, grandparents Gerhard E "George" Dick and Helena P "Lena" Dick, Jacob Klaus Penner and Amy Katherina "Kate" Nicolai, great-grandparents Gerhard Dick and Anna Brandt, Peter Johann Goertzen and Helena Friesen, Heinrich Peter Penner and Aganetha J Kliewer, Johann Friedrich "John" Nicolai and Mary Sophia Richert
