Dorothy Cate Baker of Irving, Texas December 7, 1925 - January 14, 2022 Dorothy Cate Baker, 96, a long-time resident of Irving, Irving's first female school district administrator, died Friday, January 14, 2022 at her home. Born December 7, 1925 in McKinney, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Homer Perry Cate and May Ester Vermillion Cate. She received her Master's Degree in Teaching and Administration from the University of North Texas. During World War II she worked for the U S Government as a bomb inspector. She married Luther Matthew Baker August 9, 1947 in Denton. She taught school 1955-1957 – 1969-86 and was appointed "Dean of Women" at Irving High School, later to be named Vice-Principal 1972-1980 , and retired from W T. Hanes Elementary School as principal 1980-1986. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Irving. Preceded in death by her husband Luther Matthew Baker in 1995, she is survived by her three children, Robert M. Baker and wife Maria of Lakeway, Texas, Gay Ann Holloway and husband Guy of Richmond, Virginia, and Carol J. Baker of Irving; a sister, Mildred Parker of Oklahoma City; two sisters-in-law, Foy Jean Cate of Pilot Grove, Texas and Dietlinde Cate of Van Alstyne, Texas; three granddaughters, Kathryn and husband Chris, Rachel, and Rebecca and husband John; and six great-granddaughters, Emma, Virginia, Cora, Norah, Sarah, and Alice. The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2022 at First Baptist Church, 403 South Main Street in Irving. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. in the church chapel. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Haven of Memories Memorial Park, 27532 State Highway 64 in Canton, Texas 75103. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Ministry or Texas Baptist Men's Disaster Relief Fund.
