Delton Ray Ingram was born March 30, 1934 in Tennessee Colony, TX. as one of ten children to W.B. "Bert" and Zillia Ann (Holcomb) Ingram. He passed away January 1, 2022 at his home in New Waverly, TX. Delton started school at Tennessee Colony and finished at Elkhart before going to work in Palestine at a service station, which help spark his lifelong love and interest of dealing with automobiles. A few years later Delton hired on with an oil company, continuing to work in the local area and was ready to serve his country after receiving his draft card. However, he was not accepted due to losing his arm in an oilfield accident. After recovering from this accident, Delton continued to work at a service station owned by his sister and her husband. He left Palestine in 1967 when he purchased a truck stop on I-45 in Tamina, TX. Delton then went on to start an excavation business in the Conroe area where he later owned and operated a service station until 1975. He then took the position of Trucking Manager for Louisiana Pacific taking him to Lufkin and ultimately landing him in New Waverly where he retired in 1995. During this time, Delton served as Mayor of New Waverly during the 1980's. After his retirement from Louisiana Pacific, Delton went back to his love of dealing with automobiles and serving people, where he was known for his kind nature, honesty, and quality used vehicles. He and his wife Sherry also opened Waverly Crossing Furniture in Downtown New Waverly. Delton had come to know his Lord and Savior at an early age while attending Union Methodist Church in Bradford, TX. His strong faith and determination is what helped carry him through the rest of his life. Delton is preceded in death by his parents; wife Toni Ingram; brothers Coy Lee, Melvin, Billy, and Orvel Ingram; sisters Katie York, Gracie Wilbanks, Doris McCurdy, and Imogene Collins. Family will receive friends Thursday, January 6th at 10am with funeral service following at 11am at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 Normal Park, Huntsville, TX. Graveside service will follow in the afternoon at 3pm at Tennessee Colony Cemetery, Co Rd 2230 Tennessee Colony, TX. Contributor: Joel Farringer (46600437) • [email protected]
