William M. Hancock was the son of Singleton Hancock and Mary Lindsey Lamb. Records state that he was born on the 15th of July 1838 in Jackson County, Alabama and entered the service as a Private on the 15th of July 1861 at Scottsboro, Alabama in the 4th Tennessee Regiment Company D and continued until captured in 1863 as a Prisoner of War in Louisville, KY and remained in prison until paroled and released in March of 1865. Records also state that he died 10 May 1909 and is buried at Haigwood Cemetery in Alabama, but I was unable to find a memorial for him at that cemetery; therefore I have created one. William married Malinda A. Wood on 21 May 1866. Malinda was born 22 September 1845 and died 30 October 1872, at the age of 27 years. He also married Mary Jane Brock on 9 February 1873. Mary Jane was born 10 June 1849 and died 13 December 1909. Their children were: James Hiram "Jett", Martha Ada, Joseph Earl, Dovie Jane, Joseph Edd, Young Micajah, Braz Singleton, and Benjamin Franklin. I have not been able to locate memorials for Joseph Earl and Dovie Jane. If anyone has knowledge of their memorial, please link to William M. & Mary Jane Hancock. Also, any photos of any of the family members would be a wonderful addition. My husband is the great grandson of Joseph Edd Hancock.
