Bio

Monsignor Myron J. Pleskac died Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln. He was 81. Msgr. Pleskac, ordained in 1960, was raised in Loma. He was director of St. Luke's Czech Catholic Shrine in Loma from 1997 until his retirement October 30, 2015. He served the Diocese of Lincoln as pastor in many communities, including in Crete, Denton, Heartwell, Kenesaw, Lincoln and Palmyra. He also taught at Aquinas in David City and Bishop Neumann in Wahoo Prior to his retirement, Msgr. Pleskac also served as chaplain to the School Sisters of Christ the King. ***** Msgr. Pleskac was ordained to the priesthood in 1960 following studies at St. Procopius in Lisle, Ill., and St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. He served as assistant pastor of St. Cecilia Church in Hastings from 1964-66. He then headed the guidance department at Bishop Neumann High School in Wahoo and did graduate work in education at Catholic University of America in Washington before being assigned to Hastings once again in 1968, serving as assistant superintendent of HCS and guidance director and head of the religion department at St. Cecilia High School, as well as pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Kenesaw. Additional duties during that time included serving as chaplain of Knights of Columbus Pius XII Council No. 1123 and as chairman of the Hastings Council of Youth. Msgr. Pleskac was named superintendent of schools in May 1969, succeeding the Rev. Vincent Kelly. In April 1972, he moved his residence to Heartwell where he served as pastor of Holy Family Parish while also attending to Kenesaw Sacred Heart. In July 1973, Msgr. Pleskac was succeeded as superintendent by the Rev. Raymond Hain, then also pastor of St. Cecilia Parish. Two months later, Msgr. Pleskac moved to Lincoln to assume duties as assistant diocesan superintendent of schools. From that time on, Msgr. Pleskac held various assignments as pastor, chaplain and diocesan administrator, remaining in the Lincoln area. His pastorates included St. Teresa's and St. Joseph's parishes in Lincoln and St. James Parish (Sacred Heart Church) in Crete. He also was heavily involved in popular retreat programs including S.I.N.E., later renamed Light of the World. He was awarded the honorific title of monsignor about 25 years ago in recognition of his service to the Catholic Church. He had been officially retired for several years, but continued to serve until recently as chaplain to the School Sisters of Christ the King, a religious order of teachers who maintain their motherhouse near Denton. He also was administrator of the St. Luke Czech Catholic Shrine in his hometown of Loma. Mass of Christian Burial January 6 at St. Joseph's Church in Lincoln with Bishop Emeritus Fabian Bruskewitz as principal celebrant. Interment in the cemetery at the School Sisters of Christ the King motherhouse.
