PHARR - Erwin Benton "Pat" Padgett, Jr. was born in San Antonio on May 3, 1924. He attended public school in El Campo, Texas graduating in 1942. He was drafted into the US Army on March 10, 1943 and served in the South Pacific until January 26, 1945. He remained in the Army Reserves for 20 years. On September 2, 1946 Pat married Lillian Pavlu. They had four children, Zachary who lives in Smithville, Tx.; Zan in Rockport, Tx.; Patrick in Bellville, Tx.; and Zoe who resides in Bigfork, Montana. Pat, Lillian and Zack moved to Seguin, Tx. in 1948 where he became one of the first announcers at KWED Radio. He worked and attended TLC where he played on the first TLC baseball team. He graduated in 1951 and immediately became a teacher in the Seguin ISD. During this time, Pat played third base for the Seguin White Sox and after his playing days, he became a manager for the Sox. Pat spent 10 years as principal of Jefferson Avenue Elementary School. In 1967, "Mr. Pat" went to Seguin HS as counselor. Pat spent 32 years in the teaching profession including four years as Principal of Nixon HS. Pat retired in 1983 to a life of fishing and golf. In 2003, Lillian, Pat's wife of 56 years passed away in Seguin, the Padgett hometown. Pat died on April 3, 2015 and is survived by his four children, 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
