Joe J. Mikeska, 78, of Rt. 3, Temple, an outstanding farmer and community leader in the Seaton area, died Saturday morning in a Temple hospital. He had been in ill health the past two years. Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Frank Simcik officiating. After cremation, the remains will be placed in Seaton Cemetery. Mr. Mikeska was born Jan. 16, 1891 in Zadverice, Czechoslovakia. He came to the United States in 1901 and had lived in the Seaton community for the past 62 years. He was married to Miss Alzbeta Motl in 1908. She died in 1923. He was married to Miss Olga Motl in 1924. He was an active member of the Seaton SPJST Lodge 47 for many years, and was a member of Woodmen of the World. He was selected by the Temple Kiwanis Club for its top award for soil conservation in 1954. Surviving are his wife; six daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Annie) Chupik, Mrs. Emil (Frances) Hejl, Mrs. Tom (Betty) Bowles Jr., Mrs. R.N. (Theresa) Carper, and Mrs. Robert (Judy) Meyer, all of Temple and vicinity; four sons, Raymond Mikeska, Albert Mikeska, and Reuben Mikeska, all of Temple, and Leo Mikeska of Damon; a brother, Tom Mikeska of Temple; twenty-eight grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren. Two sons died previously, Edward Mikeska of Rogers, and Joe Mikeska who was killed in Italy during World War II. Pallbearers will be Alvin Hejl, Eugene Chupik, Edward Coufal, Joe Mikeska, A.J. Mikeska; Dean Mikeska, Gene Mikeska, and Leroy Meyer.
