The Marion County Progress\ Columbia, Miss. Aug 05, 1909 Page: 3 Double Tragedy Texas Farmer Kills His Wife And Then Commits Suicide Seymour, Tex. J. M. Ermis, a well-to-do farmer, living about six miles east of Seymour, killed his wife and himself. he fired two shots from a shotgun at his wife as she was lying in bed, neither of which took effect. The shots awakened the children and they saw Ermis and wife scuffling over the gun when it was discharged, the entire load taking effect in her bowels. She died in a few moments. Ermis ran into a sorghum patch, where he cut his own throat with a razor, killing himself almost instantly.
