Sybil Machu Stojanik was born Aug. 20, 1918 in Granger, Texas to Joe and Tracy Machu. She was one of six children and preceded in death by her mother, father, sisters Vlasta Filla, Hattie Holubec Kolaja and Mildred Townsend, and brother Albin Machu. She is survived by her sister Alice Stojanik. Sybil married William (Willie) Stojanik on Aug. 23, 1948. Willie preceded her in death on July 6, 1991. She has two children, William (Bill) and wife Mary and Don and wife Debbie. Grandchildren include Carolyn Stojanik Warren (Zach), Michelle Stojanik Arendt (Tommy), Rebecca Stojanik Davis (Jared), Sarah Stojanik McGregor (John) and Adam Stojanik (Kami). Great grandchildren include Isaac and Jacob Warren and Caleb and Leah McGregor. Sybil was raised in Granger and attended Moravia school. Listening to radio shows, dancing and keeping in touch with family and friends kept her busy while working at Delta Manufacturing Company in Taylor, Texas. After Sybil married Willie, they moved to Austin. She was an active member of the Austin Brethren Church, Christian Sisters, Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher. She worked at Winns and G. C. Murphy before staying home to raise her sons. Later she worked in several school cafeterias and a church day care. The home place was special to Sybil. Not only was it where she was born and raised, but a gathering place for family celebrations. There was always plenty of food and maybe even a trip to the attic. The porch swing was always popular. Sybil enjoyed making kolaches, gardening and cross-stitch but mostly being with her children and grandchildren. There were many Christmas celebrations in the garage, camping trips and a Disney trip. She also loved her daily Dr. Pepper! In 2008, she moved to San Antonio to be closer to Bill and Mary. She thrived in assisted living and became the new resident ambassador. She loved visitors and always asked them to come back and see me! She was a skilled domino and bingo player resulting in drawers filled with her winnings. A very special thank you to the staff of Brookdale Nacogdoches memory care facility for their loving care. We were truly blessed to have had Sybil in our lives for 98+ years, she will be greatly missed but we rejoice that she is now one of Gods newest angels watching over us. Donations may be made to the Granger Brethren Church Renovation Fund, P.O. Box 943, Granger, Texas 76530-0943, or Machu Cemetery Association, c/o Albin F. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be at Saturday, April 29, at 1 p.m. at the Granger Brethren Church, 306 West Broadway, Granger, Texas 76530 with a reception following in the fellowship hall. We begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.
