About 540 individuals and 104 wagons were in the Warren Foote Company when it began its journey on June 17, 1850 from the outfitting post at Kanesville (present day Council Bluffs), Iowa. This Church Wagon Train arrived in the Salt Lake Valley under the leadership of Captain Warren Foote, September 17-18, 26, 1850. Peter Weston Maughan, age 3, was traveling with Peter Maughan (Age 39), Mary Ann Maughan (Age 33), John Harrison Maughan (Age 19), William Harrison Maughan (Age 16), Thomas Harrison Maughan (Age 13), Mary Ann Maughan (Age 11), Charles Weston Maughan (Age 6), Joseph Weston Maughan (Infant). ∼ Peter was the socond child of Peter and Mary Ann and was born in New Diggins, Wisconsin while his father was working in the mines there to rais money for the trip to Utah. He died at barely 3 years of age when he fell under the wheels of his mother's wagon as the family was crossing the plains on thier trek West he was buried on the prarie in a coffin made from a dry goods box and left with a prayer that his earthly remains might not be disturbed by the wolves.
