Jack Vernon McKinney, age 88, of Batesville, Arkansas passed away Sunday, December 2, 2007. Born on March 26, 1919 in Fort Worth, TX, he was the son of Nathan Houston McKinney and Mary Herbert McKinney. He was a retired plumber and pipe fitter, a veteran of the US Army having served during World War II, and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a former Mayor of Greers Ferry, an avid gardener, reader and fisherman and was a member of the Cedar Grove Methodist Church in Floral. Survivors include two sons, Robert McKinney of Fort Worth, TX and Nathan McKinney of Pleasant Plains; two daughters, Iris Gail Huff of Salado and Zelda Ray of McHue; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Bessie McKinney; one daughter, Virginia Inman and one granddaughter, Dee Honey. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 6, 10:00 a.m., at the Egner Cemetery near Salado with Richard Nuckolls officiating. There will be no visitation. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Robin Williams, Dr. Robert Walton, E.P. Diggs, Cody Ray, Jimmy Huff and Eric Reed. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Independence County Library.
