Born in Neunkirchen, Germany. William was the son of Henry and Helen (Wiersberg) Herchenbach. At age 19, Willim immigrated to America with several other youths. He lived and worked as a farm hand in LaSalle County, Illinois about nine years. On 9 Feb 1892, William married Miss Mary Happ in La Salle County, Illinois. In 1900, William purchased 160 acres of land on Section 13 in St. Bernard Township, Platte County, Nebraska. In 1915, he purchased another 160 acres in the same section. He raised Holstein cattle and bred Red Polled cattle and Duroc-Jersey hogs. William was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. He and his wife were the parents of six children. They were Carrie, Henry, Peter, Eva, Helen and Edward. (Source - "Past and Present of Platte County," 1915, pgs 373 & 374)
